My Services

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) teaches us how to better understand the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.  This helps identify unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns, allowing us to make changes that are desirable to you and your needs.  When we understand our unhelpful patterns, we can break them and replace them with helpful patterns, which improves your outlook, emotional response, and strengthens your ability to cope.

Psychodynamic Therapy allows us to focus on your unconscious processes and bring awareness to how they are affecting your current attitudes and behaviours.  This helps us understand how past experiences shape your life, and this awareness allows for change.  This is commonly referred to as “talk therapy.”

Among these main therapies, we also use relaxation techniques and other “tips and tricks” that help you understand yourself better and cope with the challenges of life.

Areas of Expertise

I offer counselling and psychotherapy for several issues including:

01.

Work Life Stressors

Managing the ups and downs of life can make it hard to do the things we need or want to do.

Work stress can range from frazzling to downright depressing.  Learning to set effective boundaries, communicate those boundaries, and enforce them can go a long way.  Whether you’re trying to build your career, managing others, noticing Imposter Syndrome, or dealing with challenging personality types, I will help you understand useful ways of thinking to reach your goals and ease workplace discomfort.

02.

Relationship & Family Challenges

Relationship challenges are also a prominent stressor.  Love and romance can be so lovely… except when it’s not.  Striving to seek out your next special relationship can be daunting for several reasons including low self-esteem, difficulty meeting the right people, understanding your personal sexuality, and learning to function with another person.  Similarly, those who are already in relationships sometimes find that they struggle to communicate effectively, lose sight of mutual relationship goals, or find that a growing family gets in the way of intimacy.

Parenthood (and the road to get there) can be bumpy.  Whether you’re in the throes of trying to conceive or trying to cope with the challenges of parenthood, there is a lot that can feel unfair or unmanageable.  There are many methods we can use to help smooth out those bumps and make the journey much easier.  By exploring your thoughts and feelings about the issues, as well as your own childhood and exposure to parent figures, we can help you cope with the challenges and forge ahead with a sense of control and contentment.

03.

Chronic Illness, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), & Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Living life with a chronic illness can feel defeating.  Many people feel like they are on a rollercoaster while juggling

  • medications, doctor appointments, and unpleasant interventions

  • unpredictable (sometimes embarrassing) symptoms

  • medical trauma

  • family life and parenting

  • work challenges and cognitive focus

  • poor sleep and fatigue

  • your romantic life or dating drama

  • being a parent or support person of someone with a chronic illness

My deep understanding about how Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (as well as other chronic illnesses and IBS) can impact your life comes from personal and professional experience.  I’m here to support you from a knowledgeable and empathetic perspective, while ensuring you learn proven techniques rooted in brain science that best support your unique needs.
